The Center for Psychology and Counseling provides specialized treatment for a comprehensive range of emotional and behavioral issues affecting children and their families. From a wide array of therapeutic modalities, we select the most appropriate and research supported approach best-suited to meet your child’s needs, leading to successful treatment outcomes. As one of the most highly respected counseling practices in the area for the past 20 years, we provide a full range of services effectively addressing social or emotional adjustment, academic concerns, and child and family relationship issues.
Our approach to initiating treatment with children begins with a thorough assessment of their development and functioning as we seek to understand the presenting problem as well as the underlying issues. We evaluate all aspects of the child’s life and experience to best understand their current developmental stage and strengths while seeking to identify those areas in need of attention, remediation, or improvement. Once a diagnosis is reached, a follow up feedback session is held to provide detailed findings and recommendations prior to engaging with the child or family. Once service is underway, we may continue to collaborate with parents/guardians, doctors and schools on an ongoing basis to best inform our treatment and identify the most appropriate strategies and useful resources as we continue to move forward.
We specialize in helping children who experience such problems as excessive anxiety, attention difficulties, or oppositional behaviors and realize the importance of identifying circumstances or inhibiting factors that serve to impede progress.
Areas in which we have demonstrated our expertise include:
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
- Behavioral approaches
- Skills instruction (e.g. social skills)
